Gather the Required Tools: Before starting the installation, ensure you have the necessary tools handy. These may include an adjustable wrench, pipe cutter, Teflon tape, and a bucket or towel to catch any water spills.
Choose the Installation Location: Determine the ideal location for installing the prefilter. Typically, it is recommended to install it near the main water supply entry point to filter water before it reaches the rest of the house. Common installation points include under the sink or near the water meter. Shut Off the Water Supply: Locate the main water shut-off valve and turn it off to stop the water flow. This valve is usually found near the water meter or where the main water line enters your home.
Prepare the Plumbing Connections: Using a pipe cutter, cut the main water supply line where you plan to install the prefilter. Ensure that the cut is clean and free from burrs or sharp edges. Use a deburring tool or sandpaper to smooth out any rough edges.
Install the Prefilter: Connect the prefilter to the cut section of the water supply line. Ensure that the inlet and outlet of the prefilter match the flow direction of the water. Tighten the connections using an adjustable wrench, but avoid over-tightening to prevent damage to the fittings. Apply Teflon Tape: Wrap Teflon tape around the threaded ends of the prefilter to create a watertight seal. This will prevent any leaks at the connections. Apply the tape in a clockwise direction to ensure it doesn't unravel during installation.
Reconnect the Water Supply: Turn on the main water shut-off valve gradually to restore the water supply. Check for any leaks around the prefilter connections. If there are any leaks, tighten the fittings or reapply Teflon tape as necessary.
Flushing and Testing: Once the prefilter is securely installed, open a faucet or valve downstream from the prefilter to purge any air and flush out any initial debris. Allow the water to run for a few minutes until it runs clear. This step ensures that the prefilter is properly primed and ready for use.
